Checkered Past
There's something about madras plaid, for me, that has wonderfully happy connotations. 
It reminds me of smiley '50s beach movies, big houses in Maine, and the bathing suit of a boy I liked in high school. It just seems like a perfect summery pattern, the kind of thing that's both current and a cool—not too kitschy—throwback. On eBay this morning, I came across this outstanding halter jumper, a kick-around pair of shorts, a breezy miniskirt, and two terrifically preppy, throw over your bathing suit dresses: this and this.
