I've always had an extreme approach when it comes to jewelry: I either go no-holds-barred with a piece that's really oversize and dramatic, or else with something so fine and delicate it practically disappears into the rest of what I'm wearing. Finding something low-key and small is easy; finding something that's big and statement-making is a bit trickier—if you want it to still be elegant, which I do. This smoky mother-of-pearl cocktail ring by the just-launched line Little Gems, though, fits the bill perfectly. The stone is pleasingly massive, and its cool, amorphous edges are framed in a wide band of bright, hand-hammered gold, which gives the rough-cut rock a vaguely Byzantine twist. It's an outfit-making piece that's modern, earthy, and exotic all at once.
