Aloha Rag

This innovative shop brings big-name labels and citified elegance to Hawaii.

Aloha Rag
Dana Edmunds
In stark contrast to its tropical setting, the interior of Aloha Rag has a utilitarian, minimalist aesthetic, with glass displays and chrome detailing. "Our store is unlike most in Hawaii," admits president and buyer Tatsugo Yoda. "But this unfamiliarity is what piques people's interest." The wares on offer have an urbane, jet-set appeal—whether it's structured Ann Demeulemeester jackets, tough Martin Margiela boots, or anything by Balenciaga, the store's hands-down bestseller. Mainlanders will soon be able to sample the wares in person: The store is planning a spin-off location in New York City, to open in early 2008. 1221 Kapiolani Blvd., Ste. 115, 808.589.2050, aloharag.com
