Dismayed by the lack of independent boutiques in her new Midwestern home, Jin H. Fillinger decided to put her experience as a Los Angeles fashion editor and stylist to work—and opened this boutique in Columbus' up-and-coming Short North district in 2006. "I didn't really expect such a vibrant, growing community when I first moved out here," admits Fillinger, who chose to stock her store with clothes and jewelry that telegraph a clean, confident style, from silk 3.1 Phillip Lim tops to chunky bangles from Bing Bang. And even the decor is inviting: The racks are pleasingly packed, dresses are draped over vintage fixtures, and super-chic heels and boots are perched atop old editions of classic novels. 844 N.
