Where in L.A. do you like to shop for vintage clothing?

"As a competitive collector, I can't reveal my top secret spots, but I love, love, love the vintage expo, which is staged at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium several times a year. You can find all the best dealers in one place. Also I shop online quite a bit. Ebay is still great, but you've got to be specific in your searches (e.g., '40s velvet dress or '80s punk goth). It's fun to see what turns up."

What do you like to shop for online?

"I buy loads of undergarments, from stockings to garters to bras. Victoriassecret.com has great retro yet inexpensive underwear. I also love a slipper company that's been around since the late 1800s called Daniel Green. Click on the site's Classics section."

What's your signature lipstick?

"It's never one brand, but usually a red. I like to mix my own and reapply constantly to build up a stain. My staples include Dior Celebrity Red, MAC Russian Red, and Shiseido Red Carmine—which is discontinued, but I have a stash I got them to send me from Japan. I'm a sucker for retro packaging, so I am currently obsessed with Dior's Diorific reds, which come in remodeled '50s-style gold lipstick cases. I love whipping it out at a dinner table."

What vintage era are you currently channeling?

"Right now I'm really feeling [Warhol muse and '80s nightclub queen] Dianne Brill—not only her persona and exuberant glamour but her lust for life. So that means anything from vintage Versace bondage dresses from the mid-'90s to Azzedine Alaïa to a rubber skirt and a tight sweater set. And I love big eccentric sunglasses from Francis Klein in Paris, but you can also pick them up at L.A. Eyeworks."

Describe your perfect day in L.A.

"Ballet in the morning with Jennifer Nairn-Smith, who was a principal with Balanchine and Fosse. She teaches classes at her studio. If I am not working, I like to eat breakfast at Hugo's Restaurant. The red hot latte is delicious. A little lingerie shopping is always fun; I pop in everywhere from Faire Frou Frou to Marlies Dekkers, and sometimes I have custom pieces made. I love going to my tailor, Sue at Crown Cleaners, to refit my clothes. I have three climate-controlled storage units in L.A. and I am forever taking things down to Sue and telling her tighter, tighter!"

And your perfect night?

"The Tower Bar is my canteen. I am there a lot, and the maitre d', Dimitri, is my main man. I also love all the old-school joints—Madeo Ristorante and La Dolce Vita. The best way to cap off the night is by going out dancing at the Friday-night Punky Reggae Party at La Cita Bar."

What's your favorite new store in L.A.?

"I'm really excited about Babycakes NYC, LA opening up downtown, for their gluten-free baked goods. Yum!"
