Minnie Mortimer's eponymous line of prep school&#ndash;inspired shirtdresses may reflect her New York City upbringing, but the Mandeville Canyon–based designer is now officially a California girl who loves to surf. So we asked her to share her day-at-the-beach essentials.

"I like lots of reading material—a few fashion magazines and The Paris Review—along with La Roche-Posay sunscreen, Kiehl's SPF lip balm, and a big sun hat from Roberta Freymann. To throw on over my suit, I always pack either an Irving & Fine tunic or the Gregg tunic from my line. Right now I am crazy about instant film, so I also like to bring my Fuji Instax camera."
