Sustainable NYC
This bright, jam-packed spot stocks an incredible array of organic, fair-trade, and recycled goods with a focus on offering the eco-equivalent to everyday products—from lightbulbs to organic, vegan lipstick.
Kaight
Stop by this LES mainstay for ethical and green clothes and accessories that rival any of NYC's chicest boutiques. Of particular note are European lines like Dream and Awake (reworked vintage dresses from Sweden) and Blue Velvet (pieces made from vintage scarves) that are exclusive to Kaight.
Terra Plana
Owned by a seventh-generation shoemaker, Terra Plana uses traditional techniques mixed with 21st-century eco-friendly technology to craft its unique footwear. While there are many classic styles to choose from, the more futuristic Vivo Barefoot and Dopie collections are also worth a look.
Sodafine
This cozy Williamsburg boutique specializes in handmade one-of-a-kind pieces using eco-friendly materials or labor practices (we particularly love the floaty tops and dresses)—and stocks a well-edited selection of beautiful vintage items.
Green Depot
Primarily a source for building materials (think the Home Depot of Green) this store also carries innovative goodies for the home, from artful water filters to eco candles.
Metropolitan Green teams up with Wanderlust
This revolving LEED-certified storefront in Williamsburg brings in new retailers every few weeks, and from May 7 to 16, it's hosting Wanderlust, a collection that's handmade by local Cambodian women to help support their developing economy. Expect to find beachy pieces in beautiful, earthy shades.
