New People

Seiji Horibuchi, founder of Viz Media—the largest distributor of English-translated anime and manga in America—spent seven years dreaming up a retail venture that would reflect Japan's art and fashion scene. The mind-bogglingly cool result is New People, a four-story theater/department store/café/gallery. Every few months there is a fresh rotation of artists and here-and-only-here labels that pop up in their own personally decorated spaces. Plus, an entire floor is given over to traditional paper crafts, art books, and tech-y housewares.
