Constance Boutique
Two decades on, this Asheville landmark hasn't lost an ounce of its edge. A few years back it moved to a larger, more atmospheric space (with terrazzo floors, unbleached wool area rugs, and tribal furniture), which gave owner Constance Ensner the opportunity to bring in even more trend-making lines like M Missoni and Chie Mihara, as well as contemporary favorites like Vince and DVF.

Honeypot
It's not every day that we hear of a farmer who ditched her tractor to open a vintage store, but that's exactly what Sara Legatski did a few years back. Ever since, she has become a master sourcer of dependably stylish pieces from the '40s through the '80s, some of which she discovers on her trips across Appalachia. And she's also started stocking brand-new pieces by local designers like Ship to Shore and a ton of fabulous accessories to go with everything.

Screen Door
A pair of screen doors—the creaky, iconic, clang-when-they-shut kind—serve as the entryway to this onetime linen factory, which is now filled with antiques, folk art, and a genius assortment of new and used books. Out front, a pine-tree-shaded lawn is scattered with affordable weathered-metal chairs, rusty store signs, garden statuary, and spans of cast-iron fences.

Ship to Shore
Decorated with twig bundles, sepia-tone photos, taxidermied birds, and a velvet fainting couch, R. Brooke Priddy's atelier is as blithely romantic as her designs. Nearly all of her feminine, custom-made pieces have a mermaid-y feel—asymmetric panels of chiffon or silk hug the torso, then flare into dramatic hems.
