The Lucky Los Angeles Store Directory

Los Angeles

Creatures of Comfort

If indie designers are your thing, head to Creatures of Comfort. The shop carries its own line, as well as Patrik Ervell, LD Tuttle and the best selection of Isabel Marant in L.A.

7971 Melrose Ave., 323-655-7855, creaturesofcomfort.com

Des Kohan

If you like high-concept designers (and have cash to burn), head to Des Kohan. Formerly a warehouse, it’s filled with incredible pieces from Alaïa, Viktor & Rolf and the like.

671 Cloverdale Ave., 323-857-0200, deskohan.com

Axe Restaurant

My favorite restaurant in the world is Axe (pronounced “a-shay”), in Venice. It’s just fresh, clean, local food. Go for brunch and be sure to order the massive nine-grain pancake for the table to share. Everyone will thank you for it.

1009 Abbot Kinney Blvd., 310-664-9787, axerestaurant.com

Heath Ceramics

Anyone i know with taste gets plates from Heath Ceramics. They use them at Axe.

7525 Beverly Blvd., 323-965-0800, heathceramics.com

Mona Moore

Like your edgiest friend’s closet, accessories and shoes boutique Mona Moore has a tightly edited collection of dark-but-pretty pieces.

1112 Abbot Kinney Blvd., 310-452-4070, monamoore.com

Lost & Found

A bohemian paradise, Lost & Found occupies an entire block. I like the Il Bisonte wallets, amazing wooden bowls and French tunics I wear as nightgowns.

6320 Yucca St., 323-856-5872, lostandfoundshop.com

Melrose Trading Post

Locals head to this bustling bazaar to take advantage of the well-edited, wallet-friendly selection of vintage clothing. Keep an eye out for the booth singularly stocked with nicely distressed leather boots.

7850 Melrose Ave., melrosetradingpost.org

Church

With an exterior shrouded in shrubbery, Church is almost easy to miss. But everything inside the West Hollywood boutique—from the plaster warriors that serve as mannequins to the tissue-thin leather jackets by Grai that swing from the rafters—makes a serious statement. The owners ferret out emerging designers, like Another Happy Birthday, along with offbeat bits of decor (glass lanterns, Moroccan chairs, bronzed tables) that are also for sale

7277 Santa Monica Blvd., 323-876-8887, churchboutique.com

All Saints Spitalfields

With a design philosophy rooted in vintage workwear, this chainlet is packed with shrunken leather jackets and charcoal-hued strapless dresses.

100 N. Robertson BLVD., L.A., 310-432-8484

American Rag

The largest part of this cavernous former car showroom hosts the mix of clothing for which American Rag became famous more than two decades ago (plum vintage alongside established labels like Helmut Lang). Its housewares wing, Maison Midi, brims with Provençal-inspired glasses and pillows, while a 2006 addition, the World Denim Bar, offers a hugely expansive array of denim lines.
