Beyond Retro

Housed in an endearingly grotty warehouse, London's biggest (and arguably best) vintage emporium,Beyond Retro, drips with 10,000-plus well-priced items from the '20s through '80s.

Dover Street Market

This five-floor Mayfair townhouse was conceived by Comme des Garçons Rei Kawakubo as a platform to showcase her work alongside that of other risk-taking designers. It's one of the weirdest, coolest stores we've ever been to and has the feel of an established retailer and hipster clubhouse rolled into one. As you go from one floor to the next, you'll come across intentionally raw plywood-and-corrugated-metal fixtures, entertaining art installations, April77 jeans, Pierre Hardy bags, and an eccentrically dressed sales staff (it's the best people-watching in the city).

Kabiri

Moving from one sleek, backlit display case to the next in this modern jeweler, we became increasingly excited by what we found: Emma Franklin black pearl strands fastened by blackened metal clasps; laser-etched, feather-shaped sterling pendants by Zoe & Morgan, a New Zealand brother-sister team; and jade acorn earrings from the designer who creates jewelry for Vivienne Westwood. Kabiri's website is as phenomenal as the store—and they happily ship to the States.

Labour and Wait

There's a vogue in London right now for retro, utilitarian home goods, like enameled dustpans and weighted rope doorstops—and general-store-style purveyor Labour and Wait kick-started the trend.

Liberty

This enduringly great spot is in a dead heat with Selfridges for the honor of being Lucky's favorite London department store. There's its impressive Victorian-glam interior (leaded glass windows, balconies fringed with gingerbread-style balustrades), the always-inspiring ground-floor handbag department (including all the newest from Chloé and Marni), and the plentiful assortment of promising new labels.
