Kick Pleat

Kick Pleat is in the middle of a row of South Austin residences reborn as shops, and it's our preferred destination for clothing by rising names like Mociun, Obus, and Sunshine and Shadow, plus the latest from established indies including Twinkle by Wenlan and Alexander Wang.

Kuhl-Linscomb

Launched a decade ago, this ever-growing Houston home-goods purveyor has gradually taken over an entire street of (mostly interconnected) houses/boutiques. At the heart of the operation is a large building brimming with beauty products, jewelry, and paper goods. Out back is a block-long campus of showrooms, each with a particular focus, from bed linens to designer furniture.

Leap

Lifestyle Fashion Terminal

Pioneering a new concept of retailer, this store is accurately named: It feels as large as an airport terminal and is filled with a variety of in-store boutiques from names like Cynthia Vincent and Diane von Furstenberg. The rest of the airy shop, which includes an old American Airlines check-in counter as a display fixture, is flush with hip labels like Ruffian, Alice Ritter, Lover, and Daryl K. There?s even an on-site tailor.

Linus Lounge

When she isn't working as a catering consultant, Kristen Radakovich spends her time abroad sourcing elegant, hard-to-find footwear lines to stock at this year-old boutique. The salon-like space, which has overtaken the living room of a well-kept Dallas townhouse, is a can't-miss source for names like Scorah Pattullo, LD Tuttle, Rupert Sanderson, and Rodo—and most intriguingly, it's only open seasonally, a few months each at the start of fall and spring (call for exact dates), or by appointment, year-round.

Recently relocated to North Austin's new open-air Domain shopping center, this boutique-salon-spa hybrid is unchanged from its previous location: The front has an airy loftiness and is healthily stocked with Elijah gem-encrusted tunics, Anna Sui op art print dresses, and Jurlique face sprays, while the back houses a treatment area.

Shortly after Alana Israelson opened Merge in Plano, she was already planning a companion location. The second outpost, in Dallas' bustling Preston Royal Shopping Center, is already a hit. Both stores have a similar look and directive—to offer on-trend pieces with a timeless slant, like Mara Hoffman tops and April, May dresses.
