Blueberi

Occupying a refurbished industrial space, the globally infused Blueberi offers an eccentric array of items you'd be hard-pressed to find elsewhere—or at least hard-pressed to find sold together in one store. There are Karen Walker tunics painted with images of roosters, trade beads from Africa, bright patent belts, and Victorian-era hats. 143 Front St. DUMBO 718-422-7724

Blue Tree

Helmed by '80s teen star Phoebe Cates, this Upper East Side spot fills a whippet-thin, teetering townhouse, which feels like it is inhabited by a wacky-but-chic grande dame. The case of delicate jewelry near the front is particularly strong, while the upstairs is replete with Sophie D'Hoore ballet flats and Antipast cashmere dresses. 1283 Madison Ave. UES 212-369-2583, bluetreenyc.com

BOC

The Upper West Side used to be a bit of a retail wasteland, but in the last few years huge operations like Barneys Co-op and Intermix have popped up. Despite the competition, Böc, which debuted in 2005, remains the best one-off store in the neighborhood, with a gigantic sales floor and a truly impressive roster of talent, such as Margarita Saplala, Rory Beca, and Gary Graham. 491 Columbus Ave. UWS 212362-5405, bocnyc.com

Castor & Pollux

Named for the Gemini twins, this shop has been serving up effortlessly elegant pieces for nearly a decade. It occupies a sleepy, slightly off-the-beaten-path corner of the West Village, which means that perusing the racks for picks from Acne and United Bamboo is a gloriously stress-free affair. 238 W. 10th St. (between Bleecker and Hudson Sts.), 212-645-6572

Catbird

This impossibly cute Williamsburg mainstay is roughly the size of a closet—quite appropriate since it traffics in exquisite accessories, most of which are arranged in framed cases on the walls. Rings cast after ship helms by Verameat and heart- and dagger-shaped necklaces from Bittersweets NY are highlights. 219 Bedford Ave. WILLIAMSBURG 718-599-3457, catbirdnyc.com
