Franck et Fils

Outside of the main shopping thoroughfares, this quietly low-key department store is primarily trafficked by the well-heeled neighborhood ladies who live in the 16th, which means that perusing its racks is a quiet and relaxed affair. The selection isn't as vast as what you'll find at Galeries Lafayette and Printemps, but all the best brands, from Les Prairies de Paris to Chanel, are here.

Galeries Lafayette

Sprawling across several buildings (don't miss its home department, which offers a trove of excellent gifts like enamel-handled cheese knives and beautiful china), Galeries Lafayette is a bit like navigating Macy's at Christmas. It is overrun with people, but for good reason: Amost every French label is represented, from Yves Saint Laurent and Louis Vuitton to Isabel Marant and Sandro, and the store offers tourists an extra 10 percent off everything.

Printemps

Like at Galeries Lafayette (which is immediately next door), visitors can snag extra discounts here. It's usually slightly less crazed, which means that there are a wider array of sizes, and it boasts the largest selection of beauty products in Paris.

Le Bon Marché

This 157-year-old institution—the city's first department store—is also Paris' fanciest. It offers a slew of smaller labels like Manoush and Isabel Marant, along with an exceptionally deep array of heavy hitters like Stella McCartney and Christian Dior.
