Les Puces de Montreuil

Even though it started in 1860, Montreuil, which is at the Eastern perimeter, is the least-trafficked flea market. But the neighborhood is slowly gentrifying, and more and more Parisians are moving to the suburbs in the 20th arrondissement—which means this now-gritty market is improving every year. It's a favorite with stylists who are willing to dig: Almost all of the clothing clocks in for as little as 1 euro apiece. It's open from 7:30AM until 6PM, Saturday through Monday, but it's not how it is in the States, where early birds are rewarded with the most bountiful selection: It doesn't really get humming until 10AM.

Les Puces de Paris Saint-Ouen

Otherwise known as Clignancourt, this is Paris' most famous flea market—and clocks in as the world's largest. Every Saturday through Monday (9:30AM to 6PM, though it's sleepy until about 11AM) it comes to look like a small town, divided into a host of marchés, which are either indoor warehouse-esque buildings or a designated maze of stand-alone stalls. Voyages, which has antique Louis Vuitton steamer trunks and Birkin bags, in Marché Serpette, is one of the more hyped vendors, but we found the best deals in the alleyways of the more understated Marché Vernaison (there are lots of posted maps, and guides for each marché are plentiful at all the stands). You'll still stumble occasionally across a five-figure oil painting at Vernaison, but there are loads of affordable silver, jewelry, and clothing here, too.

Les Puces de la Porte de Vanves

Situated at the Southern perimeter of this city, this flea market most closely resembles what you'll find in the States. Folding tables are arranged along a V-shaped sidewalk and stacked with everything from antique jewelry to fur coats to old china. Go at around 11AM on either weekend day: Vendors on Avenue Marc Sangnier only stick around until 1PM, while Avenue Georges Lafenestre is open until 6pm.
