Galeries Lafayette

Sprawling across several buildings (don't miss its home department, which offers a trove of excellent gifts like enamel-handled cheese knives and beautiful china), Galeries Lafayette is a bit like navigating Macy's at Christmas. It is overrun with people, but for good reason: Amost every French label is represented, from Yves Saint Laurent and Louis Vuitton to Isabel Marant and Sandro, and the store offers tourists an extra 10 percent off everything.

Pigalle

In a situation that seems uniquely Parisian, this brand-new shop is owned by a mother and son who are both ridiculously chic. Party promoter Stéphane Ashpool fills the front with street-inflected menswear, while Doushka Langhofer, who produces fashion shows, uses the cave-like back room (accessible via an in-store gravel path) as a repository for deeply discounted samples and overstock from women's lines like Comme des Garçons.

Printemps

Like at Galeries Lafayette (which is immediately next door), visitors can snag extra discounts here. It's usually slightly less crazed, which means that there are a wider array of sizes, and it boasts the largest selection of beauty products in Paris.

Woch Dom

Paris thrift stores are often so packed with stuff, you can barely get through the door. Woch Dom, which comes off as a fancy, slightly gothic boutique—black walls and airy racks, with an opulent bed in the center of the store—is the opposite. The goods are primarily from the '70s and '80s, and they're almost all tagged for less than 50 euros.
