does this outfit work?

When we first encountered Rachael Woodson—the subject of the "Does This Outfit Work?" feature in our April issue—the 22-year-old photographer was a little on the fence about her clingy white tunic top and cropped leggings: "I'm just not sure it's very flattering!"
We loved the way she wore black and white, but she was right: Her outfit needed a few tweaks. First, we switched out her top for a shorter one with a swingier shape, so it didn't get so bunchy around the middle. "This is definitely better for my figure," said Woodson. "The wider hem makes me look more streamlined." Next, we swapped her mid-calf leggings for a pair that hit right at the knee; they instantly made her legs appear longer and leaner.
Woodson's bright flats were perfect, so we left those alone, but added a necklace with oversize red stones to give another splash of color. "I was going for an overall effect that was unfussy and thrown-together," she said. "I now feel like I can do that and look sleek at the same time."
