July 2007: Does This Outfit Work?

Giovanna Olcese—the subject of the "Does This Outfit Work?" feature in our July issue—had doubts about her ethnic printed top and denim skirt combination. Here's what we did to make it even better:

  • Swapped her shrunken top for a lightweight, blousy one that has a much more effortless vibe.

  • Toned down the severity of her denim mini with one that was a little slouchier and easier to wear.

  • Added heels to show off her legs.

"She has a great body, so we definitely wanted to accentuate her figure. All we needed to do was shift the proportions of the pieces she already had," said our senior fashion editor Laurie Trott.

Giovanna's reaction: "Even though the top had a much looser fit, it still felt like something I'd wear—it was actually very sexy. And the low heels were the perfect touch: My legs looked instantly longer, but I can still walk around on the weekend!"
