does this outfit work?

June 2009
Cheryl Singh, 22, a graduate student from Yonkers, New York, likes her embroidered tunic's soft, low-key feel. But she's stumped when it comes to figuring out what to wear it with. Here, a few Lucky's fashion department came up with two chic looks for her:
Option 1:
-Swap cropped white leggings for white jeans
-Replace peep-toe pumps with peep-toe suede booties
Option 2:
-Add a boxy cotton jacket
-Substitute in a pair of navy cropped pants
-Replace her shoes with strappy platform sandals
"This tunic is surprisingly versatile," says fashion news director Jen Ford. "To start off, we picked a look similar to her original—she was on the right track. For a weekend-casual look, the white leggings and peep-toe pumps were slightly at odds with each other. Straight-leg white jeans are a little more sophisticated option, and instead of peep-toe pumps—which felt too fancy —peep-toe ankle booties hit the right weekend-ish note. For a slightly smarter look and to layer in some color, this shrunken blazer provides structure without swamping her small frame. As do the roomy cropped trousers."
Cheryl's reaction:
"I like that even though the first option is still casual, the jeans make me look so much taller and feel more confident. My style's really colorful, so I'm glad that the second outfit has even more going on, with the dark blue denim and olive green jacket—the shades play off each other in an unexpected but really neat way. And I love that I can wear high heels for both!"
