Q: What should every woman own?

A: Two pairs of jeans: one skinny and one flared. A blazer, either shrunken or oversize. A great cardigan. A high-waisted skirt that can go from the office to a dinner party.

Q: Which designers do you most admire?

A: Hannah MacGibbon, the designer of Chloé, makes great clothes that are effortless, and I love the way Stella McCartney is all about having fun and being sexy.

Q: What's the plan for your spring 2010 collection?

A: The inspiration is Palm Springs, and the image we're starting with is of a daughter who takes some of her mom's really cool clothes and makes them her own. Everything is really short to deal with the summer heat, so there are miniskirts, great shirtdresses, plus really beautiful soft blouses.
