MOTOCROSS: Skintight and biker-esque


WHAT YOU NEED: "A simple, clean, and structured top—you can't go wrong with solid tanks and cropped jackets."

HOW THEY SHOULD FIT: "Make sure they're snug from top to bottom, and they don't sit too high or too low on the waist."

HEMMED: Simple and elegant


WHAT YOU NEED: "Hem tape: 'Hemming' your own jeans is a great way to do a test-run before tailoring them permanently, or you could keep switching the length depending on whether you're wearing heels or flats."

HOW THEY SHOULD FIT: "Avoid jeans so long they drag along the street and get ruined ... that's what hemming is for."

LOW-RISE: Casual and flirty


WHAT YOU NEED: "A low-slung trouser jean with a flare leg. If you're hippy, it'll even out your curves."

HOW THEY SHOULD FIT: "These hang on the hips just right—you shouldn't need a belt to hold them up."

PASTEL: Fun, sherbet hues


WHAT YOU NEED: "Pair these with tops in dark colors like black, charcoal, or navy to balance out the sweetness. On the flip side, bold-colored jeans look great with soft neutrals like cream and oyster gray."

HOW THEY SHOULD FIT: "Make sure the cut is fitted, straight-leg, and mid-rise."

WHAT YOU NEED: "A denim blend with Lycra or Dow XLA: A little bit of stretch goes a long way in keeping jeans shapely and fitted just right."

HOW THEY SHOULD FIT: "You want clingy denim bunched a bit at the ankle."

WHAT YOU NEED: "Pair these with a loose, tucked-in blouse—it's much more flattering than anything too tight or fitted up top."

HOW THEY SHOULD FIT: "They're snug in the hips; look for classic colors and a shoe-skimming hem."
