Day One

"My go-to evening outfit, jeans with a camisole and blazer. In this case, I was going to a parents' event at my daughter's school and then out to meet girlfriends for drinks at the bar Elsa. The clutch was a gift from my friend Lucy, and it's possibly the best present I've ever received."

Day Two

"This is my daughter's favorite outfit of mine—she loves to pick out my clothes and borrow my shoes and jewelry to stomp around the apartment. Like everyone, I get depressed on gray days in NYC, and the only cure I've come up with is to have cute rainy day gear! What cheers me up is my Prada raincoat, which was less expensive than you think and has lasted me five years so far (out of what I predict to be a long raincoat life). My wacky umbrella is 100% biodegradable, made out of bamboo, biofilm and cotton, and even though I love the way it looks and it can withstand high winds, it has already started to unravel a bit..."

Day Three

"Late one weekend night, some friends and I went to the Paula Cooper gallery in Chelsea, which was open 24 hours that night to show Christian Marclay's 'The Clock.' We had to wait in line for a long time—I love that in New York, there's a huge audience for a contemporary art gallery on a Saturday night. It was my daughter's fifth birthday party the next morning, so I didn't stay long. I'm wearing my new favorite tank from Vena Cava and my old favorite flat boots from Tod's."

Day Four

"On my way to work. It's hard not to be slightly self-conscious about one's wardrobe when teaching fashion design majors at Parsons, but I've gotten over it. Kind of. Right now I'm into this fuller leg jean with a blouse or turtleneck, which makes me feel kind of '70s Faye Dunaway glam. I throw my hair up into a bun most of the time when I'm working. I wish it were more of a polished chignon, but it's more utilitarian than that."

Day Five

"At Pegu Club for drinks with friends. I have a few dresses from Tibi, and they're so easy and chic. I can throw one on for work or a daytime event and then go straight into my evening plans without changing a thing."

Day Six

"After hot dogs at Soho Park with a couple friends. I wear this necklace all the time. A couple of years ago I was up in my mom's attic playing dress-up with my daughter and found this necklace that belonged to my mom's aunt Annie, a real clotheshorse, who my mom describes as a 'Coco Chanel type.' She was the first person my mom knew who wore jeans ('dungarees,' at the time) and she'd wear them with diamonds. Now I wear jeans with Annie's costume jewelry from the '30s, my version of diamonds! Do they even make Saddlelites jeans anymore? I got them at Barneys Co-op like 10 years ago and they're still my favorite weekend jeans."

Day Seven

"This is on my way to The Metropolitan Opera with my parents. I'm a huge opera fan, and my parents treat me a few times a year. The truth is, no one really dresses up for opera in New York, but what fun is that? If I were going with friends I'd probably play it more cool, but I love dressing up to go out with my parents, who always look very chic."
