On Ellie Goulding's excellent debut album, Lights (out now), tunes such as "Guns and Horses" "Starry Eyed" and the addictive title track showcase the 24-year-old British singer-songwriter's ability to blend elements of alternative pop, dance and electronica to an irresistible ethereal effect.

Similarly, the petite and dewy blonde's style is an eye-catching fusion of pop-star glam (sparkles, minidresses), rocker irreverence (fingerless gloves, a partially shaved head), and laid-back folk (plaid button-downs, jeans).
