Summer Music Style Special: Bethany Cosentino of Best Coast's Tour Essentials

It's tough to say which is more infectious: Best Coast's deliciously hazy, '60s-influenced surf pop, or band member (and veritable indie It Girl) Bethany Cosentino's personal style—a heavenly fusion of urban hipster and retro California dreamer.

"I have one of these in almost every color, and I never travel without them. I love them because I can wear them with skirts, pants, shorts—anything, or I can wear them underneath dresses. They're super-comfortable, and I just like how tight they fit my body. I love wearing them with high-waisted pants or skirts—it's just a classic, tucked-in look."
The crush-worthy songwriter, guitarist and vocalist irreverently mixes floral prints and vintage silhouettes with eclectic jewelry and American Apparel basics—and coolly tops it all off with her trademark candy-hued mirrored sunglasses. It's fitting then, that the band's music is equally inventive: Songs like "Crazy for You," "Boyfriend" and "When I'm With You" showcase Best Coast's hypnotically sunny lo-fi style and perfectly complement Cosentino's playfully edgy aesthetic. We recently caught up with the button-cute California native—who is currently on tour and will be performing at the Sasquatch festival on May 30th—to find out how she keeps her breezy style intact while on the road.
