Plus Size Options: Lucky's January Issue

I’ve always considered mixing prints “advanced fashionista.” It’s something I’ve never really been brave enough to try. But when I saw the first look in January’s article “100 Style Ideas to Try Right Now,” (page 36) I felt inspired. Especially since I’ve been coveting a pair of floral pants at Eloquii, but hadn’t figured out how to wear them. Thanks to Lucky, I got the nudge I needed to assemble a unique and fun outfit.

Those floral ankle pants from Eloquii ($60) are the base. I’d been toying with the idea of wearing them with a sweater, to make them more wintry, but on second thought, layering is definitely the way to go. I went back and forth between colored stripes and basic black and white, but I think this Land’s End pink stripe top ($28.00) is the best choice. It’s confident and cheery, but still basic, and balances the pants well. Add a chambray top—this one’s from ASOS Curve ($43.98)—just as the outfit’s styled in the magazine. I like that the blue in the chambray is the same tone as the blue in the pants. It works without matching exactly. For the jacket, I swapped out the ladylike look of the original for something a little bit edgier. The reptilian pattern on Mynt 1792’s jacket lends some texture and brings it all together without being distracting ($188). It’s a strong finishing piece.

I'll top it all off with this great obi belt, also from Eloquii ($12.99), to give the outfit some shape, and these Naturalizer animal print pumps ($80.00).

Mixing patterns is still pretty intimidating, but with the right inspiration, it’s definitely worth trying.
