What We Expect to See at New York Fashion Week Fall 2013

Ah, NYFW—that magical time of year when we get to catch up with our industry acquaintances, spot some stellar street style and take in amazing collections amidst a flurry of popping flashbulbs and air kisses. And possibly, this time around, actual flurries—it's pretty cold here in Manhattan.

Click through to see which stars, trends and snacks (yes, snacks) we're betting on seeing all over the place starting this Thursday. Now, bring on the shows!

Betsey Johnson

Contrary to popular rumor, this Manhattan fashion legend isn't going anywhere (we told you so!). Betsey may have recently declared bankruptcy and closed her stores, but the designer will indeed be showing at NYFW—on Monday, February 11 at 5 pm, to be exact. Can't make the show in person? You can be sure that footage from the catwalk festivities will appear on the designer's forthcoming Style Network series, Betsey + Lulu. That's Bets and daughter Lulu pictured above, FYI.

Fiber!

Ah, Fashion Week: that joyful time of year when things really get going—in more ways than one. Yep, Fiber One is once again a prime sponsor of the week's festivities. Everyone knows it can be tough to find time to eat in between shows and presentations, so get ready to chow down on some chewy snacks.

Rita Ora

Last season, Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte was the star we just couldn't avoid at the tents—not that we minded, of course. This time around, we're betting we'll spot industry-beloved songstress Rita Ora in multiple front rows. She's a designer darling and a bona fide party girl who wears clothes beautifully, making her a NYFW shoo-in.

Peplums (Yes, Again.)

Hate these waist-defining, fin-like frills? Too bad. Peplums have been big news for several seasons running—but since celebs show no sign of tiring of them (heck, Beyoncé just wore a lacy one during her Super Bowl halftime performance), we're betting they'll still be a major trend presence throughout the Fall 2013 collections.

John Galliano (?)

Last month, WWD broke the shocking news that the disgraced designer had been invited to spend several weeks at Oscar de la Renta's New York studio—a move that's sparked talk of a possible comeback. Does this mean we'll spot the former Dior creative director in Oscar's front row—or helping out backstage? Will he spend the week lunching with other industry insiders? Hmm.

Kleenex/Lozenges/DayQuil

The current flu epidemic is no laughing matter, folks—even if you work in fashion. Actually, especially if you work in fashion. After all, there's no better breeding ground for bacteria and viruses than the jam-packed tents of Lincoln Center—and no better hosts than sleep- and nutrition-deprived editors, bloggers and models. This NYFW, take care of yourself! Sleep, snack (healthily!), stay hydrated and wash those hands on the reg.
