How to Wear a Floral Shorts Suit (Without Looking Like a Walking Bouquet)

We love a good shorts suit, and what’s cuter for summer than one adorned with a cheery floral print? If you work in an office that allows shorts, a two-piece ensemble that includes a pair can make a great addition to your warm-weather wardrobe. The shorts keep you cool when you're outside, while the jacket keeps you warm in your air-conditioned cubicle—without having to scramble for a coordinating cardigan. And on the weekend, it’s a great alternative to your usual jean shorts/sweater combo.

The trick to styling a floral shorts suit is to keep it simple—the matching floral separates create enough of a statement on their own.

In the office, pair your colorful suit with muted, complementary tones. Ladylike flats keep the shorts from looking scandalous and a silk blouse says, “yes, this really does count as a suit” (and allows you to incorporate another office-friendly element). A pastel necklace adds just the right amount of interest without being overwhelming.

For a weekend look, have a little more fun and go for one of our favorite pattern combos: stripes and florals. A striped tee and bright sneakers (plus a great pair of sunglasses, of course) will look polished but casual—perfect for farmers market trips, museum visits, Sunday afternoon brunches and anything else on your schedule.
