Olivia Palermo Shares Her Favorite Summer Trend and Hot-Weather Layering Tips
Last night, I stopped by See by Chloé's resort presentation to scope out the clothes, sip piña coladas (out of coconut halves, natch) and sample the brand's new fragrance. Olivia Palermo was among the first guests to arrive—and although I couldn't help but compliment her on her ikat-patterned maxiskirt right off the bat, she told me there's another summer trend she really can't get enough of. "I love Lucite jewelry," she explained. "I like that it's stayed around as a trend through the summer—it's so light! I love Lucite clutches especially, since you can sort of play with what you put inside."
With the thermostat hitting 80 degrees in NYC yesterday, I was surprised to see Olivia keep her blazer on throughout the event—but the lady's got summer layering down to a science, as it happens. Asked which materials are easiest to pile on during the warm-weather months, she said, "I love silks and fabrics with movement—cotton's great, but it's more fun to play with silks and chiffons. The blazer I'm wearing now, for example, is silk—it's great for the summer because it's light, but still has structure and doesn't lose its shape."
Considering the evening's fragrance angle, I asked Olivia if she'd ever want to create a "juice" of her own. "Maybe at some point! That's a nice thought," she laughed. As for what an Olivia Palermo fragrance would smell like? "I really love gardenia and orange blossom," she said. "Those are both really nice. My best friend's husband is the head perfumer at Guerlain—it sounds like the most incredible job, right? It's fascinating what I've learned about fragrance from him."
Hear that? Keep your eyes peeled—er, nostrils flared?—for a gardenia-infused "eau d'Olivia" sometime in the future. And for the time being, shop an outfit similar to the one she wore at last night's shindig (including her exact silk blazer in a different hue) in the slideshow below.
