Why Beyoncé's Target Appearance Is So Surprising

Since Beyoncé made the jump from up-and-coming girl group member to global mega-star, she's enjoyed the bounty of her success in several stores around the world. In 2009, she spent over £20,000 at Harvey Nichols in London on luxury brands like Rodarte and Moschino; two years later, in the same city, she dropped £4,000 and £5,000 at Selfridges and Topshop, respectively. Bergdorf Goodman in New York City, too, is another Queen B favorite; she's been spotted there on more than one occasion, browsing the racks with Blue Ivy by her side. So it's not like we're real shocked when Bey goes shopping—it's something she does a lot.

Even so, we still can't get over the fact that the superstar was spotted at a Houston Target last Sunday. First off, the megastore doesn't exactly stock the type of high-end or fashion-focused fare Beyoncé usually buys; secondly, can you even imagine being the unsuspecting customer who first spotted her?! That's like turning the corner at Key Food and running into Angelina Jolie or standing behind Rihanna in Trader Joe's insanely long line. Even crazier, judging from the Twitpic that blew her cover (sent out by @Bey_Exclusive), she did a surprisingly good job of blending in. Save for that telltale wavy blonde blowout, she just looks like any other lady stocking up on affordable flip-flops and sunscreen. (Chances are, if she tucked her hair under a baseball cap like Michelle Obama, who made her own under-the-radar Target visit in 2011, she would've gone completely undetected!) So start paying some extra attention on your next milk/concealer/office supply run; there might be more to that dark-glasses-wearing girl browsing shampoo than meets the eye.
