Banana Republic L’Wren Scott: Mark Your Calenders Now!

Try if you can, to forget about the oppressive heat and humidity happening outside. Wipe you mind clear and just think about…holiday shopping next December. Yes, holiday shopping, starting December 5 in particular, because that's when the Banana Republic L'Wren Scott collaboration—just announced in WWD this morning—drops. According to the release, the 50-piece capsule collection is going to have gift options so good (including: "a little clutch bag with a jeweled rock ’n’ roll gunmetal chain that comes off and can be worn as a necklace" and "striped cashmere blankets, striped berets and totes"), it's worth setting an iPhone reminder now.

There'll also be plenty of goodies for ladies planning their Christmas, Hannakah and New Years Eve party-wardrobes as well, like a velvet striped jacket and jeans covered in a peony print. Even better, unlike the all-over-$1,000 styles found in model-turned-fashion designer's namesake line, the Banana Republic L’Wren Scott selection will be more budget-friendly, with price-tags marked between $39.50 and $198. So, barring a splurge on straight-up L'Wren dresses on Net-a-porter, you should be able to shop for several people on your list, have enough extra cash to treat yourself and still start 2014 in the green.

Of course, while this all sounds great in (digital) print, you might still be skeptical: how can such a high-end brand work in the world of fast fashion? "That was the challenge," admitted Simon Kneen, Banana Republic's creative director and executive vice president of design, but possible. "The collection has a very clear point of view. L’Wren knows what she wants and what she doesn’t want. She would bring jewels as inspiration for buttons. It was interesting for us to take that and make it much more affordable."
