Battle of the Bondage Dresses: Miley Cyrus vs. Kat Graham
First, there was the denim thong, an item so questionable that Rihanna—the unofficial queen of controversial chic—deleted a photo of herself wearing one from her Instagram. Befuddled by what seemed to be little more than a celeb-embraced denim DIY, we asked you, our readers, for your input. And just like us, you wholeheartedly vetoed the look.
Over the weekend, two young stars stepped out wearing near-identical vintage Versace dresses that similarly raised our collective eyebrows. Miley Cyrus, who's no stranger to showing a little skin, stepped out at a pool party in Miami wearing a strappy bondage-style LBD from the 80s; meanwhile, The Vampire Diaries' resident daring dresser Kat Graham took to the red carpet at the BET Awards in L.A. in an extremely similar mini from the same label. Both dresses feature Versace's iconic Medusa-motif buttons and super-snug fit—but more importantly, both are pretty darn risqué.
Bandage dresses have been big news for years, but bondage dresses are more of a recent trend—perhaps we have Fifty Shades of Grey to thank for that. What's most interesting here, however, is that while certain elements of both Kat and Miley's looks do indeed work, each girl falls prey to mistakes the other managed to avoid. Miley's insanely short hemline likely makes it impossible for her to sit down, for instance, while Kat's mid-thigh-length number seems less like a wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen. On the other hand, Kat's decision to team her dress with matching Medusa-head earrings and multi-bucked booties feels like hardware overload, while we rather like Miley's selection of a nude lip and classic black pumps. Bottom line? Pair Miley's non-threatening footwear and natural beauty look with Kat's slightly longer dress (which also happens to lack the semi-frightening collar seen on Miley's version), and you just might be in business.
Still, we want to hear what you think! Which girl wore her revealing Versace dress best? And more importantly, would you dare to wear a similar look?
