In The Lone Ranger, Helena Bonham Carter Sports Corsets—And a Fully Loaded Leg

Helena Bonham Carter epitomizes unique, offbeat style. Her personality shines through her crazy fashion choices, and we've always admired her whimsical taste. We also always love her characters—like Mrs. Lovett from Sweeney Todd, Bellatrix Lestrange from the Harry Potter films and Queen Elizabeth from The King's Speech—because they're usually just as remarkable as the actress herself is. In her latest film, The Lone Ranger, Carter plays Red Harrington, a brothel-owning, corset-wearing westerner. Oh, and she also happens to have a gun for a leg—a little extra accessory that comes in handy once she teams up with the Lone Ranger (Armie Hammer) and Tonto (Johnny Depp) to help fight injustice.

The character's scarlet, ruffled dresses, hats and parasoles are all thanks to Penny Rose, the film's costume designer. Rose has worked on everything from Mission: Impossible to Evita to multiple Pirates of the Caribbean movies, so she's no stranger to creating elaborate wardrobes. Because Carter's real-life image is so bold, Rose made sure that the two had some style sense in common. "I was trying to merge Helena into Red," she told us. She also made sure that Carter had a lot to work with. "As an actress, Helena loves tchotchkes," said Rose. "The more props, more ingredients, the more stuff you lay on the costume, the more into the character she gets."

Don't forget to catch Carter in Disney's The Lone Ranger, out July 3!
