Dress Like You Go to the Best Worst Private School, St. Trinian's Style
Contributing Digital Editor
I grew up very close to—in fact, right on top of—an all-girls boarding school. Famous for a few illustrious graduates and regulation squash courts, Porters (formerly Miss Porter's) is, for the most part, a paragon of private education. So every time a private school comes up in conversation, that place comes to mind.
However, that's not exactly what you get at St. Trinian's. The 2007 film, a remake of the classic Belles of St. Trinian's, was not a big release here in the U.S. On a flight home from London, it was one of the on-board film choices. Tired, dazed, and having recently been mugged, I decided to opt for what seemed like mindless entertainment. It's one of those "so bad it's good" movies. Long story short: Rupert Everett plays the headmistress in drag, students distill their own liquor, heavy drug references abound, and there's a phone sex club (The Posh Totties) and some serious theft. But don't worry, it's all in the name of St. Trinian's. Hardly the conduct of a Porters girl, but no doubt way more fun.
Last time I checked, it was still floating around Netflix, so if you need a laugh—go for it.
