As a fashion magazine intern in 2007, one of my daily tasks was to comb NYC taking pictures of people wearing cool outfits. At that point, street style wasn't really a thing yet, or at least not like it is now, so I didn't really know what to look for. But I did know who not to photograph: "No models!" my boss would echo, every time, as I walked out the door.

I get it; her point was that I should hunt for people who stand out because of how they put themsleves together, not because of how they're built. She didn't want me returning to the office with 37 pictures of Karlie Kloss lookalikes making ratty workout tees and laundry-day leggings look fierce, because, you know, that's what they do.

But in retrospect, I realize it was more of a precaution than a blanket rule, because models often do have amazingly good outfits. Which makes sense: in fittings, they hear designers explain fit and proportion, and on photoshoots, they watch stylists cobble things together in a cool, fresh way. Clearly, more than a few models pick up some of these tricks in the process. For proof, click through the outfits in these 40 snaps above: they're not just girls with tall frames and jutting cheekbones but girls in smart, clever, super-tempting-to-copy outfits, too. (Which you can, by snapping up the similar, currently-available items featured after each picture.)
