Marie Denee's Take on Steven Alan Spring 2014

Steven Alan Spring 2014

NYFW Correspondent

Seeing Steven Alan's collection yesterday was the best way to begin the day. Judging from the buzz in the packed room, everyone was after a first look at this designer collection. The collection was romantic and beautiful with a strong menswear inspiration, and I loved it. Loose-fitting jumpers, maxi skirts, tailored pants with a twist and drawstrings. Who knew?!?!

I loved the neutral palette; colors included white, cream, ecru and gray. I spotted seeksucker, pinstripes, linen, tulle, eyelet and silk. Strategic layers and various textures were everywhere within the collection, all of which would translate perfectly into our day to day life. My favorite was a midi floral dress paired with a navy maxi skirt, and the sweaters that were draped over sporty short dresses and paired with eyelet shorts.

The jumpsuits, particularly a striped crossover version, were immediate musts for me. And clearly, shorts suits will be sticking around for at least another year: a seersucker version stood out in particular.
