Kanye West On Fashion: 'I'm Starting To Be Able To Express Myself'
Kanye West, no stranger to neither fashion nor the insider industry that surrounds it, revealed his second capsule collection for French brand A.P.C. at its Paris headquarters this weekend. While dressed in a white short-sleeved shirt and bleached skinny jeans, the entertainer (and fiancé to a certain reality TV mogul) discussed his learning curve in the fashion trade.
Though he admitted he had a simple education in the field of style ("I learned fashion on Style.com."), Kanye credited much of his growth and progress to A.P.C.'s founder Jean Touitou, as WWD reports. "I've done extremely big fashion shows before, which I will do again," he said, alluding to his first runway show in October 2011. "[It] was kind of like me hopping in a Lamborghini and driving really fast. Jean is teaching me how to drive."
This new, second A.P.C. collaboration included six looks ranging from simple basics (a blue bomber jacket, a navy sweater) to more extravagant designs (a fur-trimmed hooded parka), all in line with Kanye's own style.
"I've been showing my ideas for 10 years on the front row of the runways […] Hip-hop is an expression of clothing. Some people don't understand that," he said. "I'm really happy with this [collaboration] because I'm starting to be able to express myself."
