Michelle Obama Wore An Alaïa Ensemble To The 2014 State Of The Union
"You don't understand—this is an Alaia!" we could just hear Michelle Obama declare to Jill Biden yesterday. This, of course, would theoretically have been in regards to the belted, forest green Azzedine Alaïa dress she donned for Tuesday night's 2014 State of the Union address. In term's of Washington, D.C.'s comparatively conservative dress code, the full look—which came complete with a 3/4 length-sleeved, cropped jacket—was a complete home run for a FLOTUS known for her distinctive, fun style.
While Mrs. O certainly can do no sartorial wrong in our books, we won't lie and say we're not just slightly disappointed that Mrs. O didn't opt for an American designer—especially on a night as patriotic and, traditionally, celebratory as the State of the Union. But, Alaïa is a more than appropriate name from whom to break her mold, having worn him publicly twice before, according to The Huffington Post: once at a 2011 visit to the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, and another at a Nobel Peace prize banquet in 2009.
And while we couldn't track down the actual Alaïa ensemble (it may very well be custom), we've rounded up five similar models at all price-points for you to best mimic the look. Click through above to shop them all.
