Ellen DeGeneres Shows Us The Right Way To Wear A Suit
Distracted by Ellen DeGeneres' (epic!) selfie-taking, pizza-ordering and relentless Liza Minelli-teasing at the Academy Awards yesterday evening, you may have neglected to notice what she was wearing while onstage. (Except, perhaps, for that big fluffy Glinda the Good Witch costume—that will be seared in our minds forever, no?) Sure, you might vaguely recall some sort of suiting, but it definitely didn't stop time and make you suck your breath in the way Lupita Nyong'o's powder blue gown did. You were way more captivated by the host's jokes.
But now that you've had time to digest all that witty banter and those "wait, is she really doing that?!" moments, we think the Oscar MC's hosting wardrobe deserves a second look. Besides being So. Damn. Cool., all three of her custom Saint Laurent looks were much more realistic to copy in non-awards-show life than say, Jennifer Lawrence's curve-hugging tomato red column—even if you don't exactly follow Ellen's full-on menswear styling. Her killer jackets were versatile enough to work into any kind of closet (even our flower-obsessed, pants-phobic senior digital editor Elana Fishman told me that she'd wear them with everything).
Whether you missed it the first time or (like us!) just can't get enough of Hedi Slimane's impeccable tailoring, we've included all of Ellen's Oscar ensembles in the slideshow above. Click through to get really excited about wearing a suit.
