Mark Your Calendars: Lena Dunham Is Hosting Saturday Night Live On March 8
Although HBO's Girls has been on the air for nearly three full seasons now, its fearless and funny leader—a certain writer-slash-director-slash-starring actress—has not once hosted Saturday Night Live. And as an American institution that has featured nearly every of-the-moment celebrity, we're somewhat surprised the ever-controversial Lena Dunham hasn't made an appearance. But that all changes on March 8, when the 27-year-old will host SNL for her first time.
Despite the fact that fellow Girls star Allison Williams underwent most of the third season's hard press junkets in December and January, we're confident that now is just as good a time as any for Lena to step into the 30 Rockefeller Plaza spotlight. Why? For starters, she somehow manages to make headlines with every public appearance or statement—just look at the buzz she's stirred up around her forthcoming memoir. Especially in light of the latest Vogue cover/Jezebel controversy (le sigh), we presume Lena will take this milestone as an opportunity to prove that her real-time, comedic wit extends beyond the realms of HBO. As for her monologue, we're guessing a precariously perched pigeon may make an appearance.
How will our predictions hold up? Tune into NBC for SNL on March 8 to find out.
