When Cuban-American fashion designer Isabel Toledo joined forces with special-size retail chain Lane Bryant, she reportedly had but one objective in mind: "designing beautiful clothes." Now available at Lane Bryant retailers and online at LaneBryant.com, the capsule collection's 50-plus looks are artful in a vintage, romantic and Cuban-inspired way.

So what's the big deal, you ask? Well, this line is straight-up sexy. Gone are the days of the bulky and oversized garments all too often seen at Lane Bryant and other similar stores. Instead, the collection features cheerful prints (designed by Isabel's famous husband Ruben), slim silhouettes and ornate details that accentuate the woman's body, not hide it.

"It's about the proportion of the clothes," Isabel said in WWD of the ultra-femme Lane Bryant collaboration. "I always say designers all have that customer, just not on the runway."

Lane Bryant's chief executive officer Linda Heasley also discussed how the retailer is on a mission to elevate its merchandise via similar designer collaborations—including a fall lingerie collection with French fashion designer Sophie Theallet.

"We are breaking the myths," Lena said. "Our clients can put on a belt. Our clients can wear stripes. She can wear a lot of the things she was told she couldn't. We are pushing the thinking even further in the proportions."

It's about time the world of plus-size fashion retailers received a realistic, feel-good update, and here's to Lane Bryant for spearheading that process.
