This London-based shoe and bag designer has perfected the art of the statement-making accessory.
The unlikely source of inspiration behind Sophia Webster’s latest collection? Bugs! “I was drawn to the amazing patterns and bright colors that you see on butterflies,” says Webster, who also took cues from Japanese photographer Mika Ninagawa’s hyper-saturated pictures of flowers and landscapes. The result is a bright and playfully feminine mix of insect-embellished pumps, neon-hued jelly sandals and Webster’s signature word-bubble clutches cheekily emblazoned with the phrases “You buggin” and “Bite me.” But the most eye-catching designs have to be the flat sandals and heels finished with intricate laser-cut butterflies. “I used iridescent and metallic leather to give the wings a realistic feel,” says Webster. “The look is for the girl who likes to have fun. She’s playful yet elegant."
