The Hollywood Reporter's 2014 Hollywood Stylist Rankings: An Analysis
Just when we've all but forgotten the roller coaster of awards season in favor of calmer, sunnier brain space, The Hollywood Reporter released its annual ranking of Hollywood's top stylists yesterday. Based on the past year of red carpet couture, the hotly anticipated list is nothing if not buzzworthy.
Since January, the name that has unsurprisingly generated the most mumurs is none other than Parsons-trained Micaela Erlanger. Impressively, this go-around serves as Micaela's first time on the coveted list, and she's already landed a spot in the top three. Her secret weapon, if you don't already know: Lupita Nyong'o. As THR describes, Micaela's relationship with Lupita was born when Michelle Dockery, Micaela's first major client, offered to put the 12 Years a Slave star in touch with her stylist on the set of their action flick Non-Stop. The rest, as they say, is history—a full crayon box of hues later.
In other notable placements, THR dubbed Elizabeth Stewart, who works with Amanda Seyfried, Cate Blanchett, Frieda Pinto and Julia Roberts, as number one. With an exact 102 looks styled over the course of the year, Elizabeth ascended all the way up from last year's number five spot, and rightfully so. Petra Flannery—known for her sartorial risks and whose clients include Amy Adams, Emma Stone and Claire Danes—kept her hold on the second spot.
But what serves as an interesting turn of events is the most celebrity-like stylist of them all, Rachel Zoe, dropped to sixth after last year's third place rank. While she manages megawatt beauties like Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Hudson and Eva Mendes, we're still inclined to question whether Anne Hathway's ship-jump to Penny Lovell (#12) had anything to do with the dip.
Soak it all up, people—this is what we have to live off of until September's Emmys. In the meantime, see the full list and read up on this year's anointed power stylists on HollywoodReporter.com.
