Rihanna, Marion Cotillard And Allison Williams Sat Front Row At Dior's Cruise Show In Brooklyn
When putting on a resort runway show, a general rule of thumb is to interpret the Lonely Island's 2009 music video "I'm On a Boat" as literally as possible. Characterized by over-the-top opulence and a glitteringly enormous yacht, "I'm On a Boat" is—and should be—the nautical benchmark for all such cruise collections.
To wit, we have to give it to Raf Simons for hosting his 2015 Cruise show in the Brooklyn Navy Yard yesterday evening. The nautical theme was dramatically driven home by the Dior-branded boats that shuttled hundreds of fashion's biggest names across the East River, all in a very Andy Samberg-approved way. The spectacle also drew celebrities aplenty, from Dior favorites like Marion Cotillard, Leelee Sobieski and Olivia Palermo to stunning songstress Rihanna.
The clothes, showcasing an Americana-meets-French vibe, weren't half bad either. As Simons wrote in the show notes: "America is a constant inspiration for me. The pop culture, the energy, the fluidity…there is just something so alive here."
