John Galliano To Join Russian Perfumery L'Etoile As Creative Director
Guess who's back, back again? Following a three-week residency at Oscar de la Renta's studio, it appears as if John Galliano has made his official return to the industry, this time in a beauty capacity.
Yesterday, Women's Wear Daily confirmed that the Russian perfume company L'Etoile has, in fact, tapped the shamed designer to serve as its creative director after he spent the last few months quietly working as a consultant for the chain. L'Etoile has confirmed the news as well, posting an announcement on its Russian website that states: "John Is Back!"
As random as the gig may seem, L'Etoile is the largest perfumery chain in Russia, touting 10,000 fragrance and cosmetics products from labels that include Chanel, Givenchy, Kenzo, Estée Lauder, Clarins and—coincidentally—Christian Dior. Thus, its reach is impressive, and its products very high-end.
After being outed from Christian Dior as creative director in 2011, Galliano has maintained an extremely low profile, with this L'Etoile position being his first major career move since the very public dismissal.
