Nina Dobrev is perhaps best known for her role as Elena on CW's The Vampire Diaries, as a recently-turned vampire caught in a love triangle with the seriously attractive Salvatore brothers (played by Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley). Over the course of the show she battles "The Originals," her doppelgänger arch enemy Katherine (also played by Dobrev!) and copes with high school and college—all while looking extremely stylish.

The 25-year-old starlet was all smiles when I sat down to chat with her and her stylist, Ilaria Urbinati, at an event for the new Air Optix Colors contact lenses. Sporting a printed Markus Lupfer dress and a tomboyish hat atop her newly-ombréd curls, her downtime style, it seems, is a little less glamour girl and little more high-low. Over the course of the interview, we covered her craziest beauty look and her recent obsession with spa music (yes, really). Read on for the full interview, and click through the slideshow above for Dobrev and Urbinati's favorite red carpet looks ever!

Lucky: While you were playing both Katherine and Elena on The Vampire Diaries, your hairstyle switched from pin-straight to super-curly. How do you keep your hair healthy after all that styling?

Nina Dobrev: Full lace wigs… I'm totally kidding! I wear a lot of hair masks and I don't style it unless I'm actually on set. To be honest with you, I literally don't even know how to style my hair unless I'm doing an event because I rely on hair stylists. Wen is one of my favorite products becasue it's one tub full of shampoo and conditioner, all in one. I really love that because it's so simple. Then I throw in some mousse and walk outside and let it air dry. That makes it really beachy and cool. I'm very low maintenance and that's what keeps your hair healthy—when you don't fuss with it as much.

Ilaria Urbinati: Also, never washing it helps!

ND: Yeah! This [pointing to her new ombré 'do] is definitely going to do some damange for sure.

In Season 4 of TVD, you debuted some pink streaks. Is that the craziest beauty look you've ever tried?

ND: Probably! But it was fun. The thing is, those are all characters, and I don't mind changing it up if it's for a role. Plus, if it works, I can love it. But if it doesn't work it's not my fault!

IU: It's a good excuse to try new things.

When you are working with Ilaria for events and red carpet, what are your style rules?

IU: Nina definitely has an opinion, in a good way. She's very involved in the process.

ND: We collaborate 100 percent. In my day-to-day life, I'm kind of a tomboy. I like being comfortable. "Keep it simple, stupid" is my go-to phrase. On the same token, we get together and she puts a rack of designer clothes in front of me I turn into this Beverly Hills fashion girl.

IU: She likes to try them all! She's always down to try new things and I feel like she trusts me. It's fun because we've done everything.

You must travel a lot for TVD, shooting in Atlanta then flying for events. What are your top three travel essentials?

ND: I have to say more than three—I'm sorry! I have to give you the whole lowdown because it's a system. I'm like the female version of George Clooney in Up in the Air. I have to have an eye mask and Amore Pacific has this cream face mask that's moisturizing. Moisture is so important in the stuffy, dry air on a plane. I also have to have ear plugs and the Bose noise-canceling earbuds—those have changed my travel life in a way that I can't even describe! I also just downloaded a new spa music album that I'll play so I can fall asleep on the plane.
