Is it just me, or is the cutout trend getting totally out of hand this season—especially when it comes to swimwear? Don't get me wrong—I'm all about a unique suit that will turn heads as you strut through the sand, but at some point, there is a fine line that just shouldn't be crossed. That is to say, eventually the intricacies of certain suits reach the point where applying sunscreen properly becomes impossible.

Plus, there's the issue of practicality. I know that much of the time, these types of swimsuits are intended for lounging, not swimming, in—I've even tried on the odd suit that quite literally has tags warning against getting the material wet (!)—but at the end of the day, how much is too much? I'm definitely an advocate for looking chic at the beach—it's no secret that I love some intricate swimwear—but you've got to keep those cutouts and multiple straps in check. Click through the above slideshow to see some of this season's most entangling, befuddling bathing suits.
