Charlotte Gainsbourg's First Clothing Collection Is The Epitome Of French-Girl Cool
There are many, many reasons to love Charlotte Gainsbourg, chief among them her amazing performances in films like Melancholia and The Science of Sleep and her incredibly soothing, mellow music (her third, Beck-produced album IRM is a particular favorite). But to be honest, the fashion industry probably loves the Anglo-French star most because of her perfectly unfussy, minimalist sense of style. It's that innate fashion savvy, after all, that caught the eye of designer Nicolas Ghesquière (formerly of Balenciaga, currently of Louis Vuitton) years ago, leading her to become his main muse. So when you think about it, it's kind of amazing that it took this long for Gainsbourg to try her own hand at design.
Hot on the heels of its much-hyped team-up with street style star Taylor Tomasi Hill, denim-centric brand Current/Elliott tapped the singer and actress to design a capsule collection that—and this is the awesome part—will continue for four seasons. The capsule's first delivery just hit CurrentElliott.com, and it's filled with cool leather jackets, Breton stripes and, of course, straight-leg jeans identical to the ones we've seen Gainsbourg herself sporting since day one. Put simply, it's French-girl chic through and through—but, with prices starting at $128 (for a white t-shirt) and topping out at over $2,000 (for a leather coat), it'll cost you a pretty penny.
Luxe, beautiful basics with a French twist? We're almost tempted to say that Charlotte Gainsbourg x Current/Elliott is the womenswear answer to this month's buzzy A.P.C. x Kanye collab. Click through above to shop Gainsbourg's lovely new collection.
