Kendall Jenner Talks Chanel, Kanye West and Supermodels in Her LOVE Magazine Cover Interview
Five months after Kendall Jenner made her high fashion debut at Marc Jacobs’ Fall 2014 show at New York Fashion Week, some people out there are still questioning her legitimacy in the industry. I’ll admit, the first time I heard the 18-year-old was an aspiring model, not unlike Paris Hilton before her, I gave my eyes a good ol’ fashioned eye roll. But unlike Hilton (who has since switched gears to a career in EDM music, obviously), Jenner has worked hard to get her where she stands today—and that, my friends, is as one of Karl Lagerfeld’s sought-after runway muses.
Earlier this month, Jenner revealed a snapshot of her cover shoot from Love Magazine’s Fall 2014 issue on Instagram, looking every bit the toned and taut supermodel. The actual interview with the glossy, on newsstands now, is equal parts revealing, all but physically dripping with an endearing determination and tenacity.
She explains her work ethic to LOVE: “I was like, ‘You know what? I want to be high fashion. I want to be taken seriously…People think that this [success] just came to me. But it didn’t. What I have has almost worked against me. I had to work even harder to get where I wanted because people didn’t take me seriously as a model. Because of the TV show. I went on castings and some people weren’t feeling me because of my name. But it was great when people didn’t recognize me. I was like, ‘Thank you. Please don’t recognize me.’”
Big sister Kim Kardashian applauds Jenner’s Rocky Balboa-type drive, too. “She had to work extra hard to gain this respect and to fight for people to see she’s serious. Marc Jacobs gave her a real shot and treated her like any other model. He believed in her and opened the door for her. Then Riccardo and Karl gave her a chance and she has proven that she is the real deal. Her hard work paid off, and that makes me so proud.”
You hear that, world? Kendall Jenner is a force to be reckoned with, and she is not to be doubted. Despite any earlier apprehension, my money’s on this particular Jenner—if only because she’s the only member of the Kardashian gang with any semblance of a real job.
