Would You Buy Spanx Jeans? (Because Now, You Can!)
Ever since the blue jean was first invented in the 1870s, the style's lent itself to many a trend. Just in the last 10 years, we’ve seen the birth of frighteningly low-rise jeans, boyfriend jeans, distressed jeans, flared jeans and even those things called “jeggings.”
As the women of today are swapping out conventional denim for what are essentially sweatpants, it’s high time that someone took that progression a step further—which is where Spanx comes in. The hosiery company is monopolizing on women’s innermost desires for comfort and slimming-ness with a just-launched line of Spanx jeans. The range comes in two styles, the Signature (below, left) and the Slim-X (below, right), and seven washes, the former featuring a higher waist and side zipper while the latter is your traditional five-pocket jean. Each pair retails for $148.
As Spanx’s founder Sara Blakely explained to Women’s Wear Daily, “I see Spanx as a lifestyle brand that is delighting women in making things fit better and feel better on the body and not just through compression," she said. "We’ve been known for making you look thinner and more toned, but it can just be about a better cut and fit.”
We’ll give Blakely this: we’re intrigued to see how these “jeans” look IRL, and not just on our computer screens.
