The 2014 U.S. Woolmark Prize Winners, Announced!
Following in the supremely chic footsteps of last year’s winner Joseph Altuzarra, M. Patmos and Public School have been named the U.S. winners of the International Woolmark Prize for womenswear and menswear, respectively.
Announced at New York City’s Milk Studios last night, the victors will go on to compete against five remaining regional finalists from Asia, Australia, Europe, India and the Middle East; men will meet in London in January, and women in Beijing in March. Public School’s Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow and M. Patmos’ Marcia Patmos beat out a super-stacked list of competitors that also included Whit, Nonoo, Rosie Assoulin and Jonathan Simkhai.
As long as this period of competition may be, the endurance will certainly pay off in the end: the overall winners of the men’s and women’s finals will each receive $94,000 to put towards fabric sourcing and marketing. Plus, both winners will have their showcased collections carried by big-deal international retail chains, including Saks Fifth Avenue in New York, Colette in Paris and Harvey Nichols in London.
Let's hear it all together now: U.S.A.! U.S.A.! U.S.A.!
